Artgenève and
Gübelin
The House of Gübelin carefully fosters its deep relationship with art and culture. As an official partner of the artgenève, Gübelin Jewellery presents a cooperation with the artist Miriam Laura Leonardi at this year's art fair. Founded in 2011, the deliberately small and exquisite art fair has established itself as an important part of Genèva's cultural program. Gübelin Jewellery sponsors the art fair located in the French speaking part of Switzerland, which provides a forum for local as well as international galleries.
Notable collectors, leading galleries and numerous art enthusiasts are gathering at this «Salon d’Art». Represented, among others, are the galleries Hauser & Wirth, Pace, Peter Kilchmann and Lévy Gorvy. «We deeply appreciate the personal atmosphere which distinguishes the artgenève. An environment, which invites exchanges about inspiration, creativity and craftsmanship», explains Raphael Gübelin, President of the House of Gübelin
Gübelin Jewellery
Deeply Inspired
Gübelin Jewellery creations are based on the House’s unique Deeply Inspired philosophy, which unites beauty, knowledge and craftsmanship in unprecedented ways. A philosophy that is represented by the single ruby that finds its way into every divine Gübelin creation. Using micro photography, skilled designers dive deep into the mysterious inner worlds of coloured gemstones and let themselves be inspired by their spectacular colours, patterns and shapes. Like a fingerprint these features are unique in every individual gemstone and provide valuable information about its origin, history and the circumstances of its birth.
Blushing Wing
The Design
This philosophy strongly influenced the creation of «Blushing Wing», whose design is based on the intricate inner world of a padparadscha sapphire, one of the rarest gemstone on earth. Inspired by the fascinating colours and almost organic shapes within this untreated pinkish-orange gemstone, the House of Gübelin's jewellery designers have designed a work of art featuring the precious 12.10 ct padparadscha sapphire itself, sapphires of various colours and scintillating diamonds. The precious assemblage of colours in the chosen gemstones references the micro photography while the whole ensemble mirrors the peaceful tranquillity of its centre stone. With this extraordinary jewel Gübelin Jewellery continues the tradition of Haute Joaillerie in new, exciting ways.
Dial M for
Slippers
The same micro photography of the precious gemstone inspired Miriam Laura Leonardi to create her series of art pieces called «Dial M for Slippers», a name that is a wink to Andy Warhol’s famous work of art «Dial M for Shoe» and the artist’s first name. At the same time, in its simplicity, it is deliberately converse to the highly complex arts of craftsmanship that were employed in the creation of the art pieces as well as the precious jewel.
The Swiss artist was inspired by the exciting tension of diametrical opposites. The translation of an inclusion photography that, in the artist's eye, resembled a digital code, into something as inherently tangible and seemingly mundane as footwear, the contrast between the jeweller's art and the work of shoemakers all over the world, the tension between physically hard and inorganic matter and the soft, supple materials of leather and fabric, inspired Miriam Laura Leonardi deeply and lead to the creations of these unique works of art.
Experience
The Inspiration
The art pieces «Dial M for Slippers» as well as the jewel «Blushing Wing» will be displayed during the four days of the art fair in Geneva's Palexpo.
