Multi-faceted
musical programme
Because of the enormous resonance generated by last year’s premiere, the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester and Gübelin decided to repeat the benefit event. This year as well, the hosts assembled another multi-faceted and colourful programme.
The evening granted insight into the orchestra’s broad scope of music instruction activities. The musical highlights included a performance by the rising star violinist, 16-year-old Maria Dueñas. A native of Spain, she has been the recipient of numerous awards despite her young age. She was presented exclusively to the audience at the Lucerne Symphony Ball. Children from the mentoring project “Mein Musiker” displayed their abilities as well as school children from Lucerne and Meggen, who joined together in a choir created especially for the event.
“Such contributions demonstrate that passion for classical music arises when young people play music themselves”, enthused Numa Bischof Ullmann, Artistic and Executive Director of the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester. “Only thanks to revenues like those generated by the Gübelin Lucerne Symphony Ball are we able to continue to offer such a comprehensive programme of musical instruction.”
A sold out
Event
The dance floor was opened to popular favourites performed by the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester. Later on that evening, DJ Tarnover invited guests to enjoy contemporary rhythms at the ball party. With some 260 attendees, the second Gübelin Lucerne Symphony Ball was completely sold out weeks in advance. The limited attendance lent the ball a personal air and offered the guests the opportunity to meet with friends as well as to make new acquaintances.
Resounding
names
Master of ceremonies Nik Hartman cut a dashing figure throughout the evening. The musical delights were accompanied by culinary creations provided by Tanja Grandits. The 2020 Chef of the Year impressed attendees with a gala dinner which was showered with glowing praise from guests. Illustrious visitors included the ballet dancer and contortionist Nina Burri as well as Sindi Arifi, Laetitia Guarino and Clifford Lilley. Local celebrities with renowned names and reputations from business, politics and culture also took part in the gala evening.
highlights of
youth development
Some of the lucky guests were able to win valuable prizes in the drawing. The radiant highlight of the drawing was a padparadscha ring from Gübelin Jewellery’s Splendid Feather line. The red gold ring is set with a rare 1.55 ct padpararadscha, pastel-coloured sapphires, brilliant-cut diamonds, and is valued at 20,000 CHF. Two unique prizes were open for guests to bid on in a silent auction: a private concert with musicians from the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester and a cooking workshop with Tanja Grandits. Thanks to the drawing, the silent auction and generous donations, the event was able to raise the considerable sum of CHF 72,708. The full balance went to benefit the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester’s music education programmes.
Raphael Gübelin emphasises: “The Luzerner Sinfonieorchester is a true jewel in the world of classical music. Our involvement with it is a contribution toward continuing youth promotion on the part of the nation’s oldest symphony orchestra.”
