The

Inspiration

Inspired by the fascinating inner world of this rare sapphire of over 8 ct from Burma (Myanmar), Gübelin designed the cocktail ring Ocean Ballet. The unique structures in this light blue gemstone reminded the designers of the graceful, flowing movements of a charming sea creature that seems to dance in the Indian Ocean.

The

Design

Following this inspiration, the designers drew the gouache by hand. This drawing captures various perspectives of the design and serves as a template for the goldsmiths and gem setters. Gübelin continues the traditions of Haute Joaillerie, continuing to work with hand-drawn gouaches.

Gübelin Jewellerys

Iconic Ruby

For the iconic ruby, Gübelin chose a prominent place. The ruby in cabochon cut appears to float directly next to the center stone. Around it flow curved elements set with pear-shaped diamonds. The ruby symbolizes the Deeply Inspired philosophy of the House of Gübelin and embodies the Gübelin family’s passion for coloured gemstones. In the refined arrangement of sapphires and diamonds, the ruby also adds an exciting red sparkling accent that identifies the jewel as a Gübelin creation.
