Patek Philippe: Calatrava

Clous de Paris

One of the most iconic timepieces in the world has gotten a truly exciting makeover. Patek Philippe's famous Calatrava, first introduced in 1932, enchants watch enthusiasts this year with the gorgeous "Clous de Paris" references 6119R-001 and 6119G-001. In elegant 18-carat rose or exhilarating white gold, this newest Calatrava with the guilloche hobnail bezel has a more contemporary feel to it than earlier models, owing to a slightly larger diameter and a dial with applied hour markers. Hiding beneath the decidedly attractive surface is a newly developed manually wound movement that packs an impressive power reserve of at least 65 hours. With its magnificent inner workings and stunning visual allure, this Patek Philippe masterpiece is a true reminder of the Swiss manufacturer's extensive expertise and unique position in the world of haute horlogerie.

Ulysse Nardin

Blast Hourstriker 45mm

Following the reveal of the Ulysse Nardin Blast last year, this model convinces with the same thrilling design, use of high-tech materials and flying tourbillon complication as its predecessor. But, unsurprisingly, the latest version has something even more special hidden deep inside its mechanical body. For part of this skeletonised treasure is a chiming mechanism, the eponymous Hourstriker. To allow the integration of this extraordinary complication, Ulysse Nardin developed the UN-621 calibre specifically for this timepiece. Together with the French audio technology company Devialet, Ulysse Nardin’s specialists developed a system that amplifies the acoustic waves of the watch gong. This innovation allows for a louder, clearer and more pleasant sound while using less energy from the power reserve than other, comparable systems.
