One of the most iconic and recognisable ladies timepieces gets three exciting new variations this year. The Serpenti Spiga saw its beginnings in 2014 and was the horological pendant to BVLARI's 1990ies Spiga jewellery line. Resembling the tender shape of delicate ears of wheat, the more than 40 individual elements are lovingly hand crafted and combined seamlessly to create the serpentine bracelet these beautiful treasures are known for. The 2021 editions include two rose gold versions, one with a white mother-of-pearl, the other with a black lacquered dial and both featuring a cabochon-cut rubellite on the crown. The third, even more luxurious edition in white gold that features over 800 diamonds and a sapphire-set crown, completes the precious new collection. Every new Serpenti Spiga is powered by a high-precision quartz movement.

With the Tank Must SolarBeat, Cartier presented something that, in many ways, is both anchored in heritage and resolutely turned toward the future. This new timepiece is, as the name indicates, powered not by mechanics or traditional quartz batteries, but by the sun. In fact, it is the first solar-powered watch Cartier ever created. Now, although solar powered watches have been around since the 1970ies, integrating the technology into a stunning design without sacrificing visual allure was a challenge truly worthy of one of the greatest names in watchmaking. With an approximate lifespan of 16 years, the battery inside this technical marvel is charged only by the light that falls through the roman numerals onto the photovoltaic charging system. In keeping with the sustainable theme of solar powered technology, the straps, available in green, blue and black, are not made from animal-leather but from a substitute created from fruit scraps.
