MYSTICAL GARDEN

Nature and the earth, as reflected in the inner depths of green gemstones and described by our pioneer Eduard Josef Gübelin, are the inspiration for our Mystical Garden world of rings, earrings and necklaces.

Ornament of Flowers

This exquisite world of collections from the House of Gübelin is directly inspired by a microphotograph of an inclusion inside a gemstone taken by Eduard Josef Gübelin and published in his famous “Photoatlas of Inclusions in Gemstones”. He was a pioneer in gemmology and showed the world that the inclusions, if properly understood, were the keys to the soul of the gemstones, revealing much about their origins and life. This unique platinum necklace features a round 2.84 ct emerald from Colombia, as well as 24 pear-shape diamonds totalling 2.40 ct and 92 brilliant-cut diamonds totalling 1.15 ct. Round emeralds of this size and quality are rare and this gemstone features a particularly clear crystal for an emerald.

  • In this inclusion photo the light, shimmering off thin films of liquid, creates a collage of different hues which sparkle like a magnificent ornament of flowers.

  • The inclusion recalls a stroll in a garden or through a lush forest. Soft grass, the play of light on the dewy moss and rows of flowers, reconnects us with the wonders and harmony of nature.

  • Gübelin’s designers have taken shapes inspired by the inclusion collage and arranged them in concentric circles to build a floral design.

  • In the final piece, the diamond petals are arranged in a creative entourage around an emerald. The exquisite necklace is, a graceful reminder of the peace and tranquillity of the natural world.

Ancient Path

Eduard Josef Gübelin recognised the importance of the inclusions: the crystals, particles, bubbles, and other shapes and colours that can be seen inside coloured gems. Before him, these were considered blemishes. Using microphotographic techniques he pioneered, he made some of the most dramatic and beautiful images of inclusions ever taken. One of these photograhs was used as an inspiration for the Ancient Path collection. These stunning drop earrings in white gold stand out with their two 1.94 ct and 1.76 ct step-cut emeralds from Colombia, as well as 18 brilliant-cut diamonds totalling 0.08 ct. This perfectly matched emerald pair features a classically elegant emerald cut.

  • Nature can not only be wild, but also exact, as these fascinating inclusions show – miniature droplets of hot fluid trapped in the growing emerald and adapting to the shape of the crystal structure.

  • The ordered droplets in turn recall an ancient path laid out in the emerald’s mystical garden – evocative of the harmony nature brings to our lives, and her lessons of beauty and peace.

  • These pure natural rectangles have inspired Gübelin’s drop earrings, where perfectly cut gemstones hang suspended on a rivulet of diamond.

  • It is an elegantly simple design emphasizing the gem itself as the centre of it all.
